This year, SR 68 was introduced to recognize September 17-23, 2024, as Constitution Week in California.
The celebration, initiated by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1956, commemorates America's most important document. September 17, 2024, marks the 237th anniversary of the framing of the Constitution at the Constitutional Convention in 1787.
"The Constitution is our foundation, our heritage. It established the framework of our government and it preserves and protects our unalienable rights, the freedoms 'We the People' are blessed to enjoy as Americans."
There is a call to continue open and civil discourse akin to that which the founding fathers engaged in when drafting the Constitution for the betterment of California and the country.
"This week, please take a moment to reflect on the importance of this document by reading it, teaching your children about it, and honoring and remembering those who have valiantly defended it."
The responsibility to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution is emphasized as a serious commitment. Citizens are encouraged to join elected officials and communities across the country in celebrating and honoring Constitution Week.
