Senator Seyarto has shared his views on Assembly Constitutional Amendment 1 (ACA 1), a proposal concerning local government financing. He expressed his opposition to the measure, stating that it would make it easier for local governments to increase taxes on residents.
In a statement, Senator Seyarto said, "At a time when Californians are already paying some of the highest taxes in the nation, ACA 1 would lower the voter threshold required to approve new tax increases from two-thirds to just 55 percent."
The senator emphasized that the proposed amendment could lead to higher costs for taxpayers without providing them with significant benefits. "This is simply another attempt by Sacramento politicians to raise taxes under the guise of helping local communities," he added.
Seyarto also highlighted concerns about fiscal responsibility and accountability. "Local governments should focus on managing their budgets more effectively rather than seeking additional revenue from hard-working families," he stated.
The debate over ACA 1 continues as lawmakers and citizens consider its potential impact on local governance and taxpayer obligations.
