Last week marked the conclusion of the 2023-2024 Legislative Session. A total of 4,821 bills were introduced in both the Assembly and Senate, with many now awaiting action from the governor.

Senate Bill 268, authored by Alvarado-Gil, establishes that rape involving an intoxicated person where the victim was drugged by the defendant with intent to commit sexual assault is classified as a violent felony. "See my letter of support here," noted the Senator.

Senate Bill 963 by Ashby mandates that hospitals with emergency departments implement a self-identifying human trafficking system. The Senator expressed support: "See my letter of support here."

Senate Bill 1043, sponsored by Grove, requires the Department of Social Services to create a public internet dashboard displaying incident data on seclusion or behavioral restraints in short-term residential therapeutic programs. The Senator's support was reiterated: "See my letter of support here."

Senate Bill 1174 from Min prohibits cities or counties from requiring voter identification for local elections. The Senator requested a veto: "See my veto request letter here."

Menjivar's Senate Bill 1193 aims to ban leaded aviation gasoline sales in California after 2030. Again, a veto was requested: "See my veto request letter here."

Grove also authored Senate Bill 1414 which increases penalties for soliciting or purchasing minors for sexual acts. Support was again noted: "See my letter of support here."

Assembly Bills included AB 1807 by Cervantes which modifies state law governing Riverside County Citizens Redistricting Commission criteria. A veto request was submitted: "See my veto request letter here."

Berman's AB 1831 adds digitally-altered or AI-generated content to child pornography statutes, supported by the Senator: "See my letter of support here."

Arambula’s AB 1840 expands eligibility for California Dream For All Program to include illegal immigrants; this bill faced opposition with a veto request and comments provided: "See my veto request letter here" and "See my floor comments here."

Alanis proposed AB 1871 which incorporates personal financial literacy into social sciences curriculum for grades seven through twelve. This received support as well: "See my letter of support here."

AB 2442 from Zbur seeks to expedite licensure processes for gender-affirming care providers; it faced opposition with a veto request issued: "See my veto request letter here."

Arambula’s AB 2543 would allow undocumented business owners eligibility for state contracts despite federal immigration policies; another veto was requested: "See my veto request letter here."

Wood’s AB 2749 offers workers who lose health benefits due to labor disputes access to coverage via Covered California; this too faced opposition with a veto request made: "See my veto request letter here."

Maienschein introduced AB 3064 requiring firearm safety devices have manufacturer details engraved and allows annual fees charged by DOJ; another call for a veto was made: "See my veto request letter here."

Finally, McKinnor’s AB 3206 permits Inglewood venues extending alcohol sales until four a.m., under specific conditions. Comments were shared alongside requesting a veto: “"ee my floor comments here” and “"ee my floor comments".
