City of Perris issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.

The City of Perris is Partnering with the Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Community Wellness Transportation Program, Covered California, Health Net, Blue Shield and IE Smokeout, on a local Riverside County Food Drive on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

The “Feeding the Village” project begins at 9 a.m. at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris, California. The Southern California Railway Museum is located at 2201 S. A Street.

“We appreciate the support and partnerships of our local community partners like Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce who want to give back to the community,” said Perris Mayor Michael M. Vargas. “Strong partnerships build strong communities and we are honored to work with our partners to provide relief to our residents during this time.”

This “Feeding the Village” project is the third annual installment of the food box giveaway and will give away more than 3,700 food boxes filled with meats, cheeses and fruits and vegetables.

“We are happy to be a part of the solution to some of the challenges folks are facing right now, especially with unemployment and food shortages during this tough time,” said Pepi Jackson, President, Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce. “Now is the time to pull together and be there for our community and we are happy to work with our City and community partners to help where we can.”

The entire process is completely contactless, as those in attendance need only to open their car trunk, wait for the on-site personnel to load their vehicle and then make their departure. This is based on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last.

“Our community is stronger when we work together and when our partnerships and sponsors give back to our community,” said Isabel Carlos, Perris Assistant City Manager. “We are very fortunate to have amazing partners who want to invest back into our Perris Community.
