Born in Corona, California, Calvert graduated from San Diego State University in 1975 and continues to reside in his hometown.

On March 3, 2025, Rep. Calvert expressed support for Chairman Cole's leadership and opposition to a government shutdown. He stated: "I appreciate the leadership of Chairman Cole. I completely agree - a shutdown is not an acceptable option."

Two days later, on March 5, 2025, Rep. Calvert commended President Trump for fulfilling campaign promises following a joint address to Congress.
